On Sunday 10th November, residents of Wolverton and Greenleys Parish gathered together to pay their respects to our fallen heroes on Remembrance Sunday. The event, coordinated by the Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council and St George’s Church (Wolverton Benefice) saw strong attendance as our community came together to pay tribute.
The event started with a service held at St George’s Church followed by a short parade to The Square in Wolverton and then an outdoor service held at the War Memorial. To ensure all attendees could hear the speeches made during the outdoor service, our caretaking team built a small stage with a PA system on the morning of the event. Road closures were in place allowing residents a safe area to watch the parade and outdoor service. This was funded by Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council.
Wreaths were laid as the Act of Remembrance by Dame Ann Limb, Kurshida Mirza BEM High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Alderwoman Hilary Saunders, Chris Curtis MP, Cllr. and Mayor of Wolverton Bridget Lewis, Town Clerk Andrea Vincent and Wolverton and Greenleys Youth Cllr Hasaan. Further wreaths were laid by veterans, cadets, scouts, brownies and residents.
Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council wishes to thank all veterans, dignitaries, Armed Forces representatives, community organisations, guests and residents who attended. A special thanks go to the Wolverton Town Band for playing throughout the outdoor service, especially to Town Band member Fran for playing The Last Post on his Bugle marking the 2-minute silence, Reverend Gill Barrow-Jones and all of the speakers, for their hard work in supporting this event. A further special thanks goes to Cllr David Robertson for playing his rendition of The Last Post on his clarinet, on Remembrance Day.
We would also like to say a very big thank you to everybody who volunteered their time and whose contributions made the event possible and extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to Sunday’s event. This gathering gave our community and residents from further afield, the opportunity to mark this significant occasion together in a shared act of remembrance. This is a moment made possible only through the cooperation and dedication of all involved.
