HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

In 2022 Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee (seventy years of service), having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old.

There will be year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world as countries, communities and people come together to celebrate HM The Queen’s historic reign. Throughout the year, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family will travel around the country to undertake a variety of engagements to mark this historic occasion, culminating with the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June.

The Platinum Jubilee Weekend is an extended bank holiday and runs from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. It will provide an opportunity for the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate this historic milestone. Across the four days the celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on HM The Queen’s 70 years of service.

The Queen's Green Canopy

The Queen's Green Canopy

WGTC have planted 200 trees at Western Road recreation ground as part of The Queen's Green Canopy initiative which invites individuals, families, groups, companies, communities etc. to 'plant a tree for the Jubilee'. The trees planted were: Rowan, Dogwood, Silver Birch Grey Willow, Hazel, Field Maple, Oak, Wild Cherry, Dog Rose and Crab Apple.

This great effort would not have gone ahead if it wasn't for the help of local volunteers and MK Green Gym, so thank you. The trees (saplings at this stage) will need ongoing maintenance so please get in touch if you would like to be part of this.

You can view our contribution on The Queen's Green Canopy website.
